The Downing is our sleek, streamlined spin on a penny loafer. It's the kind of penny loafer that lives fast and drives hard. The kind with a hand-stitched leather upper that plays by its own rules and slides effortlessly between the office and the bar. But then, that's what happens when you partner up supple calfskin and pillowy Technogel innersoles. They're mavericks, but they always get the job done. Our double eylet Andrew lace-up has pretty much everything you could want in a shoe. So this season, we added them. They make him feel a bit smarter, we think, although for those days when all that tying and untying feels like a bit of a faff, Andrew still has that killer collapsible heel. Because there are some things that definitely don't need fixing.
